Happy Springtime! It is time to get your booties in shape for Summertime.
One of the common misconceptions about personal fitness is that strength training will turn a woman's body into Arnold Schwarzenegger. Not True!
Strength training is essential to helping you tone your body and lose fat...And, pssst: It helps you beat cellulite! So girls, let's talk about strength training. I read this article from Fitness.com that busts the myths of strength training. Here are my favorite points:
1. If I stop strength training, my muscles will turn to fat. Botton line: It is impossible for muscles to turn to fat. If anyone tells you different, they are not telling you the truth.
2. I will become muscle-bound. The opposite is true. I have been strength training for years and my flexibility is fantastic. If you are into bedroom exercises, (wink and a nod), you will appreciate the renewed flexibility you get from strength training.
3. I am too old to strength train. WRONG! Actually, strength training provides greater benefits as you age. You are never too old to start.

Hi! This is Michelle. I am seeing new clients interested in losing weight because it is getting that time of the year where we begin to wear less and less clothing. No more hiding!
Also, many ladies that are looking to get married in the Spring and Summer are looking to lose that extra ten to fifteen points or more so they can fit into their wedding dress.
The temptation is to take over the counter weight loss medication to help you lose weight. DON'T DO IT!
Many of these drugs have side effects and can wreak havoc with your sleep patterns, your mood, and could cause other harmful side effects. Also, we all know that you cannot take these drugs forever. After you stop taking the weight loss pills, you put those pounds back on.
I was reading a recent article at MSNBC.com about how they have developed this new weight loss drug that they have been testing on monkeys. Poor monkeys!

Happy New Year! I wish the most prosperous 2012 for all of you...Especially my clients.
Everyone has heard of the Reverend Al Sharpton. You might remember that Rev Sharpton was overweight of quite a long time. However, if you have seen him lately, you may have noticed that he has lost a lot of weight.
So, what is his secret?
First, it was bad news from his doctor. Secondly, it motivated him to change his diet and begin exercising on a regular basis.
A recent article in the Wall Street Journal spoke of his routine and I wanted to highlight a couple of points.
First, Rev Sharpton radically changed his diet. He mentions in the article that instead of going "cold turkey", challenge yourself to make small changes. Give up some fried foods, sweets, and starches incrementally.
Secondly, visualize a new you. Once you visualize how you want to look, you will begin to make changes to achieve what you have envisioned.
A personal trainer like me can help you with that visualization. My job is to take you on a journey that begins where you are now and where you want to go. No journey should be taken alone. In an article titled "The Most Overrated Gym Machine", the "Leg Curl Machine" is identified as the part of the exercise machine that is least valuable to your exercise routine.
The reason given was that the machine basically exercises your hamstring. Most people exercise their hamstring to increase their flexibility. The article goes on to say that there are better ways of exercising your hamstring...I agree.
Increasing your hamstring's flexibility is a key aspect of your lower body fitness. Flexibility (range of motion), enables you to get the most of your exercise reps.
A Personal Trainer can help you with increasing your flexibility by guiding your body through its range of motion and identifying where you can make improvements.
